Instructional Writing

Miss Holland has been teaching the class for the past week. The children have been learning about what instructions are and how to write instructions. They made popcorn as a class, which they will be writing instructions for. The children loved making popcorn and know that it is important to write instructions so that someone who hasn't made popcorn before can read them and know how to make it themselves.

Inquiry - Asking Questions

This term our Inquiry is about Questions. We have been looking at why we ask questions, what words questions start with and why it is important for our learning to ask questions. On Fridays we have news and everyone gets to share something. Neve's Dad let her bring a whole Crayfish Body, the children came up some great questions about the Crayfish which most of them Neve was able to answer, apart from the "Why does it smell like that?" question which will be stuck up on our wondering wall. Most children felt the shell of Crayfish and it's claws which they discovered had soft furry bits like rabbits fur. Thank-you Neve for bringing it along it created some great class discussion.

Science Week

This term we had Science week. Aubrey was kind enough to bring along a Science Experiment that he had from home. Unfortunately it didn't quite work out, and our end result was no crystals. BUT we do have another set to do at a later time so fingers crossed the next one works!!

Rocket Ship

One of our reading groups read a story about a rocket ship what better to do than to make our own in Room 5. They were very proud of it!! Measurement

At the end of Term 1 we were learning about measuring. We were learning to estimate, and also learned about what Milliliters is. We made a cup of Jelly and a milkshake each. Mrs T-K showed us on the measuring cup what Milliliters was and how to measure 200ml for our milkshake, when it was our turn to make our milkshake we had to use the measuring cup to measure 200ml of milk and then we had to measure two heaped teaspoons of milkshake mix. It was yummmmmmmmm!!!! When we made our Jelly we had to estimate what half a cup would be, some of us drew a line on our cups to remind us once it was out turn to make our Jelly.
