Letter Writing


We were learning how to write letters. We had to include the following when writing a letter to someone.

  • Write an address with no punctuation on the left side of the page
  • Write a salutation e.g. Dear Frank
  • Write an opening sentence
  • Write a closing sentence
  • Write an ending e.g. From James
  • Address an Envelope
We all chose someone to write too. Once we had finished we addressed out envelopes and walked to the post shop to post them.

Sacrament of Baptism


We have been learning about the Sacrament of Baptism - the symbols of Baptism, what Baptism is, how people get Baptised and what happens during a Baptism. We were lucky enough to share in the celebration of Baptism with some children from our school.

Magic Glasses

Last week one of our reading groups read a book about Magic Glasses. One of the children in the book didn't like wearing his glasses because he felt different to the other children. Josh and Mrs T-K both said they knew how he felt because they felt similar when they started wearing glasses too. We decided that we would do what the children in the book did and made some magic glasses for all of the children in the reading group. Take a look at our very cool Magic Glasses.

PE - Swing and Rotation




We have been learning about using rotation and swing in the playground. Children have enjoyed using the adventure playground to show swing and rotation. The children have been setting themselves goals and most children have kept on trying to achieve these goals.

Glockenspiels

At the beginning of the term we started learning how to play an A and an E on the Glockenspiels - later on we will learn how to copy and play a simple tune to the beat of the music.

Inquiry - Our Cultures

New Zealand has been doing very well in the Olympics. We started off our inquiry unit with our own Mini Olympics at the Velodrome. The children loved participating and i must say that i was very proud of each and every one of them. We have been looking at different cultures that participate in the Olympics and what cultures looks like in each others lives. Take a look at what we have come up with so far.

Holy Spirit

Check out some of our Holy Spirit art pieces. We were learning about symbols of the Holy Spirit and decided that we would use the dove symbol to make our magnificent pieces of art.

Last week we had some visitors to our school can you see who they were?

Meditation

Wow it is Term 3 already, where has the time gone? We were learning about how to use our Imagination to pray - after a first hard long week back at school meditation seemed to do the trick on a Thursday afternoon, on Friday morning we used this as our prayer. Take a look at us meditating - some of us nearly fell asleep.

Gymnastics

Last term the children were involved in an awesome Sport Southland programme based around Gymnastics. We had Nacho and Mrs Baker come in to help. Here are some pictures that of us on the last day.

Instructional Writing

Miss Holland has been teaching the class for the past week. The children have been learning about what instructions are and how to write instructions. They made popcorn as a class, which they will be writing instructions for. The children loved making popcorn and know that it is important to write instructions so that someone who hasn't made popcorn before can read them and know how to make it themselves.

Inquiry - Asking Questions

This term our Inquiry is about Questions. We have been looking at why we ask questions, what words questions start with and why it is important for our learning to ask questions. On Fridays we have news and everyone gets to share something. Neve's Dad let her bring a whole Crayfish Body, the children came up some great questions about the Crayfish which most of them Neve was able to answer, apart from the "Why does it smell like that?" question which will be stuck up on our wondering wall. Most children felt the shell of Crayfish and it's claws which they discovered had soft furry bits like rabbits fur. Thank-you Neve for bringing it along it created some great class discussion.

Science Week

This term we had Science week. Aubrey was kind enough to bring along a Science Experiment that he had from home. Unfortunately it didn't quite work out, and our end result was no crystals. BUT we do have another set to do at a later time so fingers crossed the next one works!!

Rocket Ship

One of our reading groups read a story about a rocket ship what better to do than to make our own in Room 5. They were very proud of it!! "My favorite part is the flames and counting down for take off 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, BLAST OFF" Isaiah-Runi "My favorite part was decorating is" Danye "My favorite part was showing Miss Swney" Mya

Measurement

At the end of Term 1 we were learning about measuring. We were learning to estimate, and also learned about what Milliliters is. We made a cup of Jelly and a milkshake each. Mrs T-K showed us on the measuring cup what Milliliters was and how to measure 200ml for our milkshake, when it was our turn to make our milkshake we had to use the measuring cup to measure 200ml of milk and then we had to measure two heaped teaspoons of milkshake mix. It was yummmmmmmmm!!!! When we made our Jelly we had to estimate what half a cup would be, some of us drew a line on our cups to remind us once it was out turn to make our Jelly.
